Join Your Friends at the Library
You are invited to become a Friend of the Somerville Public Library and help the library in serving the people of Somerville.
The Friends of the Somerville Public Library is a not-for-profit organization that helps the library and its branches to provide programs, services, and materials not covered by the library's normal operating budget.
We are asking for your ideas, your energy, and your support. Help us to support your library by becoming a Friend of the Library, by giving us a hand with the book sale, or by attending library programs.
In return, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you are doing something for your library and your community.

How the Friends Help the Library:
Friends of the Library Book Sale
Held twice a year, this event is one of the primary sources of support for the library. Friends who join at the $50.00 or higher rate receive a 50% discount on all books (excluding rare books) during the sale. For more information, contact the Friends at friendssomervillepubliclibrary@gmail.com.
Cultural Passes
The Friends purchase free or discounted passes to museums and cultural institutions in the greater Boston area. These passes are available to Somerville residents and their families, with a valid Minuteman library card.
Programming Support
The Friends provide financial support to bring interesting authors, musicians, and artists to the library. With this support, the Library is able to offer a variety of children's, teen, and adult programs ranging from puppet shows to poetry readings.
Friends Meetings
The Friends Board meets at a time announced by the President, in the Conference Room of the Central Library. These meetings are held to monitor the Friends’ budget, hear reports from the Library Director, take action on Library funding requests, and plan events such as the book sales and Annual Meeting. Members are welcome to but are not required to attend these meetings.
