FREE 12 Week In-Person Citizenship Preparation Class

The Somerville Public Library in partnership with St. Mark Community Education Program is offering a free, 12 week U.S. Citizenship Preparation class. The class will prepare students for the citizenship interview including the 128 civics questions, the reading & writing sections, and interview questions based on the filed N-400 application.

Important: For this class cycle, we will be teaching the new set of civics questions (128 questions).

**If you filed your N-400 application before October 20, 2025, please let us know. You will take the 2008 version of the civics test (100 questions).**

Requirements: Intermediate level of English (reading, writing, speaking and understanding) and 5 years as a U.S. permanent resident (green card holder) or 3 years, if married to a US citizen.

Attendance: By registering, you are registering for all 12 weeks and are expected to come to a majority of the classes. 
If you cannot attend all 12 weeks or can no longer attend, please let us know. Space is limited in our classes.

Free Beginner English for U.S. Citizenship Class

The English for U.S. Citizenship class is for beginner English Learners who would like to apply for U.S. Citizenship. It will help you improve your English and also learn about U.S. civics.  ESOL/Civics Workbooks will be provided.  The class will meet on Mondays & Tuesdays from 10-12:30 at Central Library (79 Highland Avenue).

Requirements: Basic English skills (reading, writing, speaking) and a green card in order to attend.

Attendance: By registering, you are expected to attend the majority of the classes.

FREE 1-1 Virtual Citizenship Interview Preparation


Have a scheduled citizenship interview and want to do some practice interviews?  Our Citizenship Tutors can help you prepare for your U.S. Citizenship interview with practice interviews that go over questions to the N-400, reading & writing sections, and civics questions.

Requirements: Intermediate level of English and 5 years as a U.S. permanent resident (green card holder) or 3 years, if married to a US citizen.
