East Branch News, September 2020

Sunset in front of the East Branch Library

September, here we are!

We miss seeing our patrons. Miss Meghan has been putting together some wonderful children's book bundles, some are themed and some are personalized. The feedback has been touching:

“Our daughter has been downstairs reading as soon as we got home, she is SO HAPPY and so am I - thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!! Such thoughtful choices, this is so wonderful!”

“Thank you again!!!!! I, too, missed the library VERY much, our whole family has.”

We’re looking forward to seeing you at our remote programs this month. Miss Meghan's storytimes resume on Wednesday mornings at 11am. PAWS to Read with Daisy will resume this month, too. For more information about children's programs at the East Branch, email Meghan at MForsell@minlib.net.

The East Branch Book Group will meet on Friday, September 25th at 11am to discuss These Ghosts are Family by Maisy Card. Copies of the book are still available - learn how to place a hold and schedule contactless pickup here. On Saturday, September 26, Let’s Talk about a Poem with Lloyd Schwartz will meet again. The poem hasn’t been decided yet, but watch our Virtual Programs page for updates, and join us for this popular program with Somerville’s Poet Laureate. Participants have said “it’s the kind of program that people will talk about in years to come.”

On September 30th at 6pm, we are excited to have Somerville resident and author Rosemarie Day discuss her book Marching Toward Coverage - How Women Can Lead the Fight for Universal Healthcare. You can register for this event on Eventbrite.

Starting in October we are thrilled to announce our Beats On Broadway drumming program with Marcus Santos, a contemporary percussionist, educator, and creator of Grooversity.  We will be offering three free 30-minute drumming/movement sessions. This program is made possible by a grant from the Somerville Arts Council and is geared for grades 4-6. There is a limited supply of drumming kits available, so register early. To register, or if you have questions about this or other East Branch programs, email Marita at MCoombs@minlib.net.

All these programs are free and everyone is welcome to attend.
