What do you see yourself doing this Saturday morning? Laughing? Screaming? A little bit of both? We’re right there with you, with the first series in our Community Curated film program.
Dan Kimmel, Somervillian, film critic, and past president of the Boston Society of Film Critics will be hosting this series. He will offer brief introductory remarks before each film, and there will also be time afterwards for comments, questions, and discussion. Dan’s books on film include The Dream Team: The Rise and Fall of DreamWorks:Lessons from the New Hollywood; I’ll Have What She’s Having: Behind the Scenes of the Great Romantic Comedies; and most recently, Jar Jar Binks Must Die… and Other Observations About Science Fiction Movies, which has been nominated for a 2012 Hugo Award.
Now, on to the schedule. Dan has chosen three “Scary But Funny” films for this inaugural series. First up, this Saturday at 10:00 a.m.: Ghostbusters, starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, and Rick Moranis. When ghosts go on a rampage, only three men can save the world. Soon every spook in the New York City is loose and our heroes face the supreme challenge. If you want your spirits raised, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!
Next up is Gremlins on May 5th and then Men In Black in May 12th. All will be shown at 10:00 a.m. at the Central Library.
This free film series is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and all are welcome. We hope you can join us! Look for more Community Curated film series in the weeks and months to come.
