You're invited to become a Friend of the Somerville Public Library
and help the library in serving the people of Somerville.
The Friends of the Somerville Public Library is a not-for-profit
organization that helps the library and its branches to provide
programs, services and materials not covered by the library's
normal operating budget.
We are asking for your ideas, your energy, and your support.
Help us to support your library by becoming a Friend of the
Library, by giving us a hand with the book sale, or by attending
library programs.
In return, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you
are doing something for your library and your community.
Here's How Friends Help the Library:
Friends of the Library Book Sale
Held twice a year, this event is one of the best sources
of support for the library. Friends who join at the
$50.00 or higher rate are welcome to attend the Book Sale
Preview. For more information, call the library.

Friends support Library Programs and Services:
Museum Memberships
The Friends purchase a number of membership cards to museums
in the greater Boston area. Library patrons and their families
can visit museums at discount prices or free of charge.
Programming Support
In order to bring interesting authors, musicians, and artists
to the library, the Friends offer an honorarium. With this
financial support, the Library can offer a variety of children's,
young adult, and adult programs which range from puppet shows
to poetry readings.
Friends Meetings
The Friends Board meets at a time announced by the President,
in the Director's office at the Library. These meetings are
held to monitor the Friends budget, hear reports from
the Library Director, take action on Library funding requests,
and plan events such as the booksales and Annual Meeting.
Members are welcome to but are not required to attend these
meetings.
