Join us tomorrow evening at the Central Library for our next author night. James Klein will be here to discuss his book Strong Boy: The Life and Times of John L. Sullivan, America's First Sports Hero. Sullivan was the first heavyweight champion of gloved boxing and the prototype kid from the wrong side of the tracks who becomes a superstar athlete. Born to working-class Irish parents in the South End, Sullivan was the first American athlete to earn more than a million dollars. Sullivan was also the first in a long line of Jocks Behaving Badly. His womanizing, boozing and brawling kept him on newspaper front pages and made him a repeat visitor to jails in numerous American cities. Klein, a contributor to The New York Times and ESPN, will tells us about the life of the first American celebrity athlete and the birth of modern professional sports. The talk will be tomorrow, Nov. 20, 7 p.m., at the Central Library, 79 Highland Ave.
