Using the Somerville and New England History Collection
You are invited to visit Somerville and New England History Room, located on the second floor of the Somerville Public Library, 79 Highland Avenue. The materials in the Local History Room are available for research during regular library hours. A reference librarian is available to answer your questions and to assist you with using the historical material.
All users of the collection must agree to the following use policy:
- Researchers must sign in at the Reference Desk and provide proper identification before using local history materials.
- Researchers must handle collection materials carefully.
- Briefcases, backpacks and bags are not allowed in the Somerville History Room.
- Material older than 10 years cannot be copies without the consent of the Head of Reference.
- Accept the decision of the Library staff as to whether or not something can be photocopied
- If visitors wish to take their own photographs of collection material for purposes of individual research, permission must be granted by the Museum Librarian, who will also approve the conditions under which the photography is done.
- It is the responsibility of the user to determine the copyright status of unpublished or
published, text, image or electronic data found in the collection, as it cannot be assumed that the Library has clear title to that material. If such unpublished archival material, such as correspondence or field notes is quoted or referred to in a publication, the credit line to be used is "From the collections of the Somerville Public Library."
