This is the American Bandstand trading card of Somerville native
Bobby 'Boris' Pickett, singer and songwriter of "Monster
Mash." The song debuted in 1962, was No. 1 on the Billboard
chart the week before Halloween, and hit Billboard charts again
in 1970 and 1973. The unofficial anthem of Halloween, "Mash"
has been covered by The Misfits, The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band
and The Beach Boys. In October 2005, Pickett protested inaction
on global warming by releasing "Climate Mash." Born
in Somerville February 11, 1938, he died of leukemia April 25
2007, aged 69. |
