Maria Carpenter
- Biography
Maria Carpenter became Director of the Somerville
Public Library on September 6, 2011. She was previously Director
of Advancement, Marketing and Communications for the library at
Northeastern University, where she raised over 1.2 million in
donations and founded Northeastern's well known Meet the Author
series. She brings a focus on organizational learning, communications,
and leadership to the Somerville community. Maria received her
Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University, her Master's in
Library and Information Science from University of Pittsburgh
and is pursuing her Doctorate in leadership studies at Simmons.
She worked in the field of arts administration before entering
the library profession. She is a member of Phi Beta Delta, the
honor society for international scholars, is a Spectrum Scholar
of the American Library Association, and is the recipient of many
awards. Maria also teaches yoga, follows local bands, likes to
snowboard, and is a Reiki healer. She has been a Somerville resident
for 13 years, and says it has been her dream for the past few
years to have the opportunity to be Director of the Somerville
Public Library. |
